Accepted solution by Yara — hmmm to measure properly, use a repeatable in game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX,…
  1. so annoyed rn my small form factor PC is performing like it lost a generation... a strategy game stutters in places that used to be smooth, all after the NVIDIA driver update.

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

Id like to measure this properly instead of going on feel. Whats teh right way to compare two drivers? i have both driver packages downloaded alerady. i just do not want to run a dozen random tests and end up with numbers i cannot interpret. A simple, repeatable method would be perfect. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

    facepalm

  4. ok so first rule out the obvious: on laptops, check that teh game acutally uses the dedicated GPU. Settings > System > Display > Graphics, add the games .exe, set it to High performance... driver updates can reset per-app GPU preferences.

  5. yeahhh if measurement confirms a regression, roll back with DDU to the previous driver, and report it to NVIDIA with your GPU, game and settings.

  8. lol same thing happened to me check that the driver isntall didnt reset your control panel settings (power management mode, low latency mode, V-Sync, frame caps). A clean install rseets everything to defaults, which can feel like a performance change. fingers crossed 🤞

  9. after a driver update, games often rebuild their shader cache, which causes stutter for the first sessions. give it a couple of runs, or clear the driver shader cache manually in the control panel / %LocalAppData% cache folder and let it rebuild once.

day one patch is bigger than the actual game, classic

hmmm to measure properly, use a repeatable in-game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers. One run each isn't enough.

  12. @yara_pixel The game had dropped back to the integrated GPU. Set it to High perfromance and a strategy game runs better than before. Wow.
