  1. hmmmm ok im fed up with Wi-Fi dead spots... the ISP router sits in a corner on the ground floor and teh upstairs office barely gets a usable signal. i work from home, so video calls dropping is a real problem.

options seem to be: a better single router, a mesh system, or running a cable upstairs. what would people here do? pls help 🙏

hmmm hey, mesh works well, especially with a wired backhaul: nodes connetced by Ethernet betewen them. wireless backhaul is fine too, but each hop shares airtime, so place nodes where they still get a good signal from each other, not at the very edge of coverage. hope that helps :)

  3. ahh classic powerline adapters are a middle option if you can't run cable. Performance depends heavily on your home's wiring, which makes it a bit of a gamble. If you try them, buy from somewhere with an easy return policy and test with your actual calls.

  4. ahh classic before buying anything, move the router. A router in a corner, behind a TV or inside a cabinet loses a lot of signal. Central and elevated helps a surprising amount. Also check if the ISP rotuer is in "bridge" or "modem only" mode capable, sooo whatever u buy can act as the main router. fingers crossed 🤞

  5. @shader_otter ran a cable through the cupboard to the office and put a mesh node there with wired backhaul... calls are rock solid and teh whole house has coverage. fingers crossed 🤞

  6. oof if u can run an Ethernet cable to teh office at all, do that first. A wired connection for ur work machine removes the problem entirely, and you can add an access point at that end for other devices... even an awkward cable route through a cupboard often beats any wireless option for reliability. lmk how it goes

  7. Short version: mesh gets recommended for every situation, but in a smlalish house a single good router placed centrally can be enough, and its simpler to manage 😅 Multiple nodes also mean more radio traffic and more things that can go wrong 😤 Id try relocation and a better router before buying a three-pack.

Report back with what u find.
