lol same thing happened to me also turn off any GPU overclock or undervolt profile, including factory "OC mode" in the vednor app. A new driver can expose an undervolt that was only barely stable before.

  1. so annoyed rn i was alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game on my small form factor PC when teh whole screen just went black. Audio kept going for a sceond, then stuttered, then the picture came back with a little notification that the display driver had stopped responding and recovered. This started teh same evening i installed the NVIDIA Linux AMD64 EM64T Display Driver 580.126.18 update. Heres teh message i keep getting:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    it happens maybe twice an hour now... before the update, zero problems for months. I dont want to start blaming the hardware if this is just a bad driver, but I also dont wanna ignore a card thats on its way out, where do I even look first? any ideas??

  2. lol same thing happened to me that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didnt answer within the timeout so Windows reset teh driver. open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with your symptom. fingers crossed 🤞

  3. ok so since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. if the button is greyed out, download the previous package from the NVIDIA support page and install that instead. worked for me anyway 🤷

  10. been there man some people raise TdrDelay in the registry to hide this. i wouldnt start there: it just gives teh GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything. Use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards. fingers crossed 🤞

  11. ahh classic check power before blaming the driver 🤷 A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if teh card has two connectors. good luck man!

  14. @erik_router omggg clean install with DDU on the previous NVIDIA driver and the black screens are gone. two days of alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game and not a single 4101. thank u!
