my editing workstation started showing glitchy squares in 3d apps overnight

  1. I installed teh AMD Radeon Crimson Edition Graphics Driver 17.4.1 Hotfix update last night and this morning my editing workstation looked like this in 3D apps:

    gpu artifacts

Little colored blocks, flickering lines, sometimes a whole strip of the screen goes green for a moment. It doesnt crash, it just looks horrible. My stomach dropped because artifacts usually mean dying hardware, right?? But its suspicious that it started exactly after teh update. How do i tell which one it is without spending money?

  4. ahh right took a screenshot and the artifacts are visible in it too, so it's not the cable. hope thats enough info 😅

  6. ahh classic check that the PCIe power connectors are fully seated and not melted or discolored, power issues can produce artifacts under load.

  9. for me it was the driver... swapped it and boom, fixed worked for me anyway 🤷

  10. Test with a second display output or a different port. If artifacts move with the screen content in screenshots, it's rendering (GPU). If they don't appear in a screenshot but do on the monitor, the cable, port or monitor itself is involved.

  11. lol same thing happened to me reset any overclock or undervolt, especially memory clock... artifacts that look like small colored blocks are often VRAM instability, and a driver update can change memory behavior enough to tip a marginal OC over. fingers crossed 🤞

  15. oof do a proper clean install of teh previous driver: download it from the AMD support page, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU, reboot, then install. A plain rollback in Device Manager sometimes leaves teh problematic profiles in place. hope that helps :)

have u tried turning it off and on again (im only half joking)
