Accepted solution by Esme Schmidt — to measure properly, use a repeatable in game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and…
  1. ugh. something's off... an MMO feels sluggish since the GeForce Graphics Driver update and the FPS counter agrees with me.

    Fatal error

    Fatal error
The game has crashed and will now close.

    DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
The GPU device instance has been suspended.

that crash happened once too. im on a gaming desktop. ive restarted, reinstalled the game, and turned off recording. before i go back to the old driver, is there something i should check first? i would also like to understand how to measure this properly, because right now i am mostly going on feel and an FPS counter in the corner of teh screen. im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  8. oof check that teh driver install didnt reset ur control panel settings (power management mode, low latency mode, V-Sync, frame caps). A clean install restes everything to defaults, which can feel like a performance change. fingers crossed 🤞

  9. Check Power Options: a Windows update or driver installer can switch to Balanced or a battery saver profile. On laptops, also check the manufacturer's performance mode app.

  11. after a driver update, games often rebuild their shader cache, which causes stutter for the first sessions. give it a couple of runs, or clear teh driver shader cache manually in the control panel / %LocalAppData% cache folder and let it rebuild once. worked for me anyway 🤷

  12. Accepted solution

to measure properly, use a repeatable in-game benchmark or teh same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers, one run each isnt enough.

    lol
