  1. okay, this is driving me nuts, black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    its always while waking the monitor from standby. my gaming laptop is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. the only change i can point to is the GeForce Graphics Driver update from NVIDIA... ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously, is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing??

  2. ahh classic that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didnt asnwer within the timeout sooo Windows reset the driver. open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx, the timestamps tell u if it lines up with your symptom. fingers crossed 🤞

  4. since it started right after the udpate, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver... if teh button is greyed out, download the previous package from the NVIDIA support page and install that instead. worked for me anyway 🤷

  6. ok so if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver you want first, disconncet from the internet sooo Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install the dwonloaded package, leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think.
