How do I properly undo a bad Arc Graphics Windows DCH Driver update? DDU, rollback, or both?

Accepted solution by Milan Nakamura — If installing the older package over the top complains about a newer version, thats exactly the case for DDU. Installers refuse downgrades…
  1. long time lurker first post lol okay, help me do this properly. my home-built PC has the screen resolution reset after a Intel update and Ive decided to go back to the previous driver.

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Ive downloaded DDU and the older pakcage. What exactly do i do, in what order, and how do i stop Windows from reinstalilng the new one behind my back? i have never used DDU before, so please assume i know nothing. i do have a USB stick and a second device to read instructions on while i work.

  5. Sequence that works: 1) download the older package from teh Intel support page and DDU, 2) disconnect the network, 3) boot into Safe Mode (Settings > Recovery > Advanced startup > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings), 4) run DDU, choose Clean and restart, 5) install the older package, 6) reconnect. good luck man!

  6. hmmm roll Back is greyed out when Windows doesn't have the previous dirver package cached. That's normal, not a sign anything is broken. u can see what's stored with pnputil /enum-drivers and remove a specific package with pnputil /delete-driver oemXX.inf /uninstall.

  8. to stop Windows Update replacing it, use Device Installation Settings > No (System > About > Advanced system settings > Hardware) or the Group Policy "Do not include drivers with Windows Updates" on Pro. worked for me anyway 🤷

  9. DDU isn't dangerous if you use it as intended, in Safe Mode, with a restore point first... the real risk is running it in normal mode with teh network on and letting Windows race you to install a driver mid-cleanup. fingers crossed 🤞

  10. Accepted solution

If installing the older package over the top complains about a newer version, thats exactly the case for DDU. Installers refuse downgrades but are fine on a clean system.

  11. For a one-version rollback, the installers own clean install checkbox (when available) is often enough. DDU is great, but not always required.

  12. @mnakamura yesss did it exactly in that order with the network unplugged. old driver installed, the screen resolution reset is gone, and Windows hasnt touched it in a week. thank you! seriously made my day 😭🙏
