  1. guys pls help take this with a grain of salt: i work from home and have a growing number of smart home devices, plus guests who use teh Wi-Fi. id like to separate them from my work laptop and home server.

ive got a router that supports VLANs and a managed switch, and my access point supports multiple SSIDs mapped to VLANs lmao but Ive never set this up and teh terminology (tagged, untagged, trunk, PVID) is confusing. how should i plan it?

  2. ahh classic classic. Keep a way back in. Before changing the port your PC is on, make suree management access works from teh new VLAN, or keep one switch port untagged in the management VLAN as a fallback. Locking yourself out of the switch mid-change is a rite of passage, but its nicer to skip it. good luck man!

oof classic... plan it on paper first:

    • VLAN 10 - trusted (work laptop, PCs, server)
    • VLAN 20 - IoT (smart plugs, TV, speakers)
    • VLAN 30 - guests worked for me anyway 🤷

  4. @zane_mutex got it working after one evening of confusion about tagged vs untagged, casting works, IoT cant reach my server... wrote down teh port map for next time. worked for me anyway 🤷
