  1. hmmmm ok okay, this is driving me nuts. Black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. Then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    Its always while playing an open-world game. My small form factor PC is not overclocked and temps look normal in teh vendor overlay. The only change I can point to is the Radeon Adrenalin Graphics Driver update from AMD. Ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously 😭 Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am I stuck guessing?

  5. ok so since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click ur GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. If the button is greyed out, download the previous package from teh AMD support page and install that instead.

    my pc fans sound like a jet taking off but sure

  6. yeahhh that ptatern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: teh GPU didnt answer within teh timeout sooo Windows reset the drievr. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with ur symptom.

  7. If rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the driver u want first, disconnect from teh internet so Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh downloaded package. Leftover profiles from older versinos cause more of these than people think. lmk how it goes

  8. Not every TDR is the driver. If teh black screens continue on two different driver versions, Id start testing the card and PSU instead of hopping versions.

  9. @oskar.holm48 WOWWW it was the power cable. one daisy-chained cable on a hungry card. swapped to two separate cables and the small form factor PC hasnt blcaked out since. lesson learned. seriously made my day 😭🙏
