ahh classic also turn off any GPU overclock or undervolt profile, including factory "OC mode" in the vendor app. A new driver can expose an undervolt that was only barely stable before.

  1. okay, this is driving me nuts. black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    It's always while scrubbing a 4K video timeline. My workstation is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. The only change I can point to is teh GeForce Graphics Driver update from NVIDIA. I've already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am I stuck guessing?

  2. ok but is any overclock, undervolt or "OC mode" enabled in the GPU software or BIOS?

  3. The workstation had a factory OC profile turned on in the vendor app... i didnt even know it was there.

    nothing is more permanent than a temporary workaround

  4. if rollback doesn't help, do a clean install: download teh driver you want first, disconnect from the internet sooo Windows Update doesn't push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh downloaded package, leftover profiles from older versions cause more of these than people think. hope that helps :)

  5. some people raise TdrDelay in teh registry to hide this. I wouldnt start there: it just gives the GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything... use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards. good luck man!

  8. @emberrider-3d1 WOWWW turned off the factory OC profile and stayed on GeForce Graphics Driver 531.79. stable now. the new driver must have been a little less forgiving of that profile. seriously made my day 😭🙏
