black screen roulette after updating geforce graphics driver: anyone else on nvidia??

That pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didn't answer within the timeout so Windows reset the driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell you if it lines up with ur symptom. worked for me anyway 🤷

    ok weird one okay, this is driving me nuts... black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like notihng happened, then this pops up:

    Its always while waking teh monitor from standby. My home-built tower is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. The only change i can point to is the GeForce Graphics Driver update from NVIDIA. Ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing?

    been there man check power before blaming the driver. A PSU that's borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load. If it's a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if teh card has two connectors. worked for me anyway 🤷

    pro tip: write down what u change... i didnt and had to redo black-screen from scratch lmk how it goes

    ehh not every TDR is the driver. If the black screens continue on two different driver versions, Id start testing teh card and PSU instead of hpoping versions.

    @early_bench WOWWW turned off the factory OC profile and stayed on GeForce Graphics Driver 591.86. Stable now. The new driver must have been a little less forgviing of that profile.
