  1. Okay, this is driving me nuts. Black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. Then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    It's always while alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game. My small form factor PC is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. The only change i can point to is the GeForce Security Update Driver update from NVIDIA. i've already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing? pls help 🙏

  2. Do u see Event ID 4101 in the System log at the same times as teh black screens?

  3. yeahhh check power before blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load, if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if teh card has two connectors. fingers crossed 🤞

  5. since it started right after teh update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver. if teh button is greyed out, download teh previous package from the NVIDIA support page and install that instead.

    yeahhh that pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped resopnding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: teh GPU didnt answer within teh timeout so Windows reset teh driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell u if it lines up with ur symptom.

  7. @pingforge WOWWW clean install with DDU on the previous NVIDIA driver and teh black scerens are gone. Two days of alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game and not a single 4101. Thank you! seriously made my day 😭🙏
