  1. Ive got a dual-monitor setup and one screen randomly blanks for a second or two. No pattern i can see. Running at a high refresh rate on DisplayPort.

Wondering whether to blame the monitor, the cable, or teh GPU before I start buying things. The other monitor on the same card never does this. Drivers are reasonably current. The monitor is connected over DisplayPort.

lower the refersh rate a step as a test. if teh blanking stops, you're at teh edge of what teh link can handle, which points to the cable or teh monitor's input :/ also check teh monitor's menu for any adaptive sync or "deep sleep" settings; some monitors behave strangely with those on. worked for me anyway 🤷

  3. @kmoreau I'd also update or clean-reinstall teh GPU driver before buying cables. driver bugs with mixed refresh rates across monitors do happen, and they can look exactly like a link problem. it's free to test. use the vendor's clean install option, or a driver removal tool in safe mode, so leftovers from older versions don't skew the result.

  4. Swap ports and monitors to isolate it. Put teh problem monitor on the main monitors port and cable 😤 If the blanking follows teh monitor, its teh monitor; if it stays with teh port or cable, look there. Its tedious but it answers the question definitively.

  5. oof try a certified cable rated for the bandwidth ure using. High resolution plus high refresh rate needs alot, and marginal cables work fine most of the time and then drop the link occasionally. "Better for a day" after swapping cables fits that pattern. worked for me anyway 🤷
