longer version: my home-built tower came with a manufacturer-customized graphics driver. i wanted the newer one from Intel directly, every insatller i try says its incompatible with my Windows. is the lapotp maker locking this down, or is my Windows install broken?? i would really prefer not to reinstall Windows just to update one driver, if there is a way to check what the installer is actually comparing, i would love to know it. seriously need help here 😭

  5. ahh classic run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth if the installer fails on every version. A damaged component store can break driver installers in odd ways.

  6. oof that error is often misleading. Installers check the GPUs hardware ID against their INF file, not just the OS. Open Device Manager > Display adapters > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids and comprae :D If you grabbed the desktop package for a laptop GPU (or vice versa), ull get this exact message.

  7. Some laptops use OEM-customized drivers (common on hybrid graphics). In that case get the driver from the laptop makers support page, or use the generic Intel package only if it explicitly lists mobile GPUs. worked for me anyway 🤷

make sure you picked the right architecture and the right OS family. A pakcage meant for a different Windows edition, or a server/workstation branch, will refuse with teh same generic text. hope that helps :)

  9. @byte_hound630 holy cow ended up using the laptop makers driver. Its older but stable, and my game launches now. Thanks for explaining what the installer was really checking.
