How Worried Should I Be About Percentage Used On A A Month Old Purchase??

  1. Confession: I chose the renewed 512GB NVMe to save money for a better GPU. After a month I ran a SMART check because a friend told me to.

    Disk health

    Disk health
    S.M.A.R.T. status: BAD

Reallocated sectors count: 1,872 (threshold exceeded)
Back up your data and replace the disk as soon as possible.

The Percentage Used line is yellow. The seller says refurbished drives are fully tested. I am now wondering what exactly they tested xD Is this a normal state for a second hand SSD or a warning that it is near the end?

  2. refurbished SSDs with high Percentage Used are simply worn, not broken, if it is past 100 percent, teh manufacturers endurance rating is used up. it can still work for a long time, but it should never hold your only copy of anything. hope that helps :)

  4. oh ive been there lol get teh full picture with smartctl -a /dev/nvme0 (smartmontools works on Windows too) and look at Percentage Used, Available Spare, Media and Data Integrity Errors and Data Units Written. One yellow attribute means very different things depending on which one it is.

  12. If Media and Data Integrity Errors or reallocated sectors are above zero and rsiing, treat it as failing. Run the check again in a few days. A stable number is a scar, a climbing number is a countdown.
