HOW MUCH VRAM DO YOU REALLY NEED FOR MULTICAM 4K INTERVIEWS? ugh

Accepted solution by Zora S. — yeahhh lower the timeline resolution while editing 😅 in Resolve, go to File Project Settings Master Settings and set the timeline…
  1. i'm editing multicam 4K interviews in my NLE, and as soon as i add Fusion titles, playback stops and i get this:

The client deadlnie is tomorrow. My GPU isnt that old, sooo I thought it would handle this. Is there a way to get through this project without new hardware?

i've already closed everything else and restarted the PC, the error keeps coming back at teh same clips... i'm fine changing my workflow if that's what it takes.

  2. ok but does teh error happen only during playback, or also when rendering?

  3. wait what idk man that sounds like bad advice tbh

  4. lol same thing happened to me spread heavy effects: apply noise reduction to fewer nodes, use a smaller noise reduction region or lower settings, and avoid stacking several heavy effects on one clip. good luck man!

  5. i come back to this thread every week just for the drama

  7. In Preferences > Memory and GPU, make suree only ur dedicated GPU is selected for processing and the GPU processing mode matches your card (CUDA for NVIDIA, OpenCL for AMD). fingers crossed 🤞

  8. lol same thing happened to me close other GPU-heavy apps like browsers with hardware acceleration, games or other editors. they all share teh same VRAM. lmk how it goes

  9. oh ive been there lol cache heavy effects instead of computing them live. right-click a clip with a heavy effect and eanble Render Cache Color Output, or set Playback > Render Cache > Smart. hope that helps :)

  10. use optimized media or proxies for heavy codecs. right-click clips in teh Media Pool and choose Generate Optimized Media or Generate Proxy Media. editing compressed H.265 or high-res RAW directly is very demanding. lmk how it goes

  11. yeahhh lower the timeline resolution while editing 😅 in Resolve, go to File > Project Settings > Master Settings and set the timeline resolution to 1080p. output resolution can still be 4K in the Deliver page. this cuts VRAM use dramatically. fingers crossed 🤞

  12. wait what some ppl suggest lowering teh timeline resolution, but be careful: certain effects and sizing behave slightly differently at different resolutions. Check ur output before delivery. but hey ymmv

  14. @cipher_pilot holy cow dropped the timeline to 1080p and generated optimized media. No more GPU memory errors, deadline met! Thank u.
