Accepted solution by Alba Pereira — yeahhh export your top old URLs from Search Consoles performance report (or teh old sitemap) and check each with curl I or a crawler.…
  1. ok weird one we launched switching to a new CMS last week and organic traffic fell overnight to a trickle.

the agency says rankings always wobble after big changes and we should wait... but this doesnt look like a wobble... ive got access to Search Console, analytics and the server... id like to check things myself before trusting just wait, what would you look at first? A clear order of things to check would really help me stay calm.

  4. sorry forgot to say found it, maybe: the canonical tag on many pages still points to teh staging domain after switching to a new CMS.

  5. hmmm update internal links and sitemaps to point at the new URLs driectly. Relying on redirects for internal navigation slows down crawling and keeps the old URLs alive in Googles eyes. lmk how it goes

  6. oh ive been there lol for domain moves, use Search Consoles Change of Address tool on teh old property after teh 301s are in place, and keep teh redirects running long-term, not just a few weeks.

yeahhh export your top old URLs from Search Consoles performance report (or teh old sitemap) and check each with curl -I or a crawler. Every old URL should return a single 301 to the most relevant new URL. 404s, 302s, redirect chains and redirects to the homepage all lose value.
