  1. long time lurker first post lol confession: I chose teh renewed 512GB NVMe to save money for a better GPU. after two weeks I ran a SMART check cuz a friend told me to.

    Disk health

    Disk health
    S.M.A.R.T. status: BAD

Reallocated sectors count: 1,872 (threshold exceeded)
Back up your data and replace the disk as soon as possible.

The Percentage Used line is yellow. The seller says refurbished drives are fully tested. I am now wondering what exactly they tested. Is this a normal state for a second hand SSD or a warning that it is near the end??

  6. hmmm screenshot the SMART data now and send it to the seller with the purchase date. A warning within teh return period is teh easiest refund you will ever get... waiting only weakens your position. lmk how it goes

  7. refurbished SSDs with high Percentage Used are simply worn, not broken... if it is past 100 percent, teh manufacturer's endurance rating is used up. it can still work for a long time, but it should never hold your only copy of anything. fingers crossed 🤞

  8. idk man that sounds like bad advice tbh

  9. If Media and Data Integrity Errors or reallocated sectors are above zero and rising, treat it as failing. Run the check again in a few days. A stable number is a scar, a climbing number is a countdown. lmk how it goes

  10. get the full picture with smartctl -a /dev/nvme0 (smartmontools works on Windows too) and look at Percentage Used, Available Spare, Media and Data Integrity Errors and Data Units Written... one yellow attribute means very different things depending on which one it is. worked for me anyway 🤷

  11. been there man also update teh drive firmware with the venodrs SSD tool if the brand has one. Some health warnings are firmware reporting bugs, but only trust that explanation if teh vendor actually documents it.

  14. hmmm whatever you decide, set up a real backup today. A second drive with a scheduled copy, or File History, or robocopy /MIR in a scheduled task. A cheap drive is fine if losing it costs you nothing. lmk how it goes

  15. personally I avoid refurbished storage completely. saving a bit on the one part that holds ur data never felt worth it to me, buy new with a real warranty.

  16. @diego.fischer Sent it back for a full refund and bought a new drive. Copied everything over first. Sleeping better already, thanks. cant believe it was that simple lol
