  1. im literally losing my mind here i start mechanical engineering soon and my parents gave me roughly 1200 euros for a laptop. That is all i get for the next four years, so i really cannot mess this up. Everyone online seems to recommend whatever they personally own. My priorities: all day battery, something that wont feel slow in year three, and ideally not a giant brick. What specs actually matter for my course and where can i safely save money?? thx in advance!!

  4. oh ive been there lol prioritise in this order: 16GB of RAM, a decent SSD (512GB at least), a screen u can look at for hours, then teh processor. RAM and storage are the parts that make a laptop feel old in year three, and on many thin lapotps they are soldered.

  5. oh ive been there lol check your departments software list before buying. some computer science programs need Windows only tools, some need a dedicated GPU, and some run fine in a browser. the syllabus answers this better than any forum. hope that helps :)

  6. ok so buy the laptop, then spend a bit on a sleeve, a warranty that covers accidents if you are clumsy, and a backup drive or cloud storage. losing a thesis is worse than a slow CPU. lmk how it goes

  7. Battery life matters more than benchmarks for students. u will sit in lecture halls with two outlets for two hundred people. Look for reviews with real battery tests, not teh manufacturer's numbers.

  8. Avoid the cheapest models with 8GB and an eMMC or small SSD 🙏 They feel fine in teh store and miserable a year later with a browser full of tabs and a video call running.
