  1. long time lurker first post lol help! Client footage is a screen recording, and the free Resolve vesrion gives me clips wont import at all:

    Media Import

    Media Import
Unable to decode the selected clip.

    C0042.MP4 - H.265 / HEVC, 4:2:2, 10-bit
This format is not supported for decoding on this
system. The clip will appear offline.

  2. What does a media info tool show for the codec, bit depth and chroma subsampling? ?

  3. ahh classic the free version of Resolve on Windows has limited H.264/H.265 support for certain profiles, especially 10-bit 4:2:2 😤 Resolve on Linux doesnt support H.264/AAC in the free version at all. Check what ur version supports before assuming the files are broken. fingers crossed 🤞

  4. yeahhh MKV containers arent supported in Resolve... remux to MP4 without re-encoding using FFmpeg: ffmpeg -i input.mkv -c copy output.mp4. its lossless and takes seconds. worked for me anyway 🤷

  6. Accepted solution

for a reliable editing workflow, transcode to an intermediate codec: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v dnxhd -profile:v dnxhr_hq -pix_fmt yuv422p -c:a pcm_s16le output.mov, larger files, but editors handle them perfectly. worked for me anyway 🤷

  7. transcoding everything to DNxHR eats disk space fast... for short projects, a remux or buying Studio may be more practical.
