A middle ground that worked for us: gRPC between backend services, plus a thin REST/JSON gateway at the edge for browsers and third parties. Protobuf is still the single source of truth.

been there man run sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup Image /RestoreHealth if teh generic driver also fails. corrupted audio components in Windows itself can look like a driver problem.
