yeahhh for offline tools, look at one time purchase alternatives or open source options. Many popular categories, from office suites to photo eidtors and note apps, have capable free alternatives. Try them for a week before deciding.

on some newer CPUs, the chipset package includes power plans or scheduler related components that improve behavior ;) for those, installing it from teh vendor or board maker is recommended. hope that helps :)
