@heap pusher DDU was much less scary than i expected... clean install of the older NVIDIA driver and everything works. saving this thread for next time.
ok so home edition, so no Group Policy for me.
lol same thing happened to me to measure properly, use a repeatable in game benchmark or the same route, log frame times with a tool like PresentMon or CapFrameX, and compare average and 1% lows on both drivers. one run each isn't enough.
