try turning off the settings first, fixed it for me

ok so for games that have their own good 3D audio engine, adding another surround layer on top can make positioning worse. In that case, use stereo output and let the game handle it. worked for me anyway 🤷
if you suspect an effect causes crackle or latency, turn it off in mmsys.cpl device Enhancements/Advanced and compare. Processing should be inaudible in terms of delay, but buggy implementations exist. RAM prices doing their own thing…
hmmm is your output stereo studio headphones, or a real multi speaker setup?
