@xavi cipher ended up using the laptop makers driver. its older but stable, and my game launches now. thanks for explaining what the installer was really checking. u guys are the best!!!
Forcing 1000 Mbps full duplex can make things worse with some switches. Stick with auto negotiation and fix teh root cause. but hey ymmv
yeah so winver shows a pretty old build. windows Update said up to date but there was a feature update waiting under optional updates.
