ahh classic disable USB power saving: Device Manager USB Root Hub (each) Properties Power Management untick Allow the computer to turn off this device , and in Power Options disable USB selective suspend .

exact same thing happened to my old thinkpad last month

for me it was the cable.. lol swapped it and boom, fixed. lol this thread is gold
