Is File History alone enough for family photos, or am I fooling myself?

  1. guys pls help confession: my only backup of my family photos is File History... im fairly sure thats not enough, but every guide i find is either enterprise-level or a sales pitch... whats a sensible, low-effort setup for a normal person with a desktop and a laptop? id like to spend a little money if its worth it, but i dont want to build a server in my closet... whats the sweet spot for a normal household? im about to throw this thing out the window lol

  5. hmmm sync is not backup. If you delete or corrupt a file in a synced folder, the deletion syncs too. Use a backup tool with versioning. lmk how it goes

  10. lol same thing happened to me automate it. A backup that depends on remembering will eventually be skipped. file History or Windows Backup on Windows, Time Machine on macOS, and tools like D茅j脿 Dup or restic on Linux all run on a schedule.

  11. ok so keep at least one copy disconnected or versioned so ransomware cant encrypt it along with teh main drive.

  13. The 3-2-1 idea: three copies of the data, on two different types of storage, one of them off-site. For most ppl that's teh main drive, a local backup drive, and a cloud backup. good luck man!
