Accepted solution by Jonas Ortiz — lol same thing happened to me to disable all plugins without the dashboard, rename wp content/plugins to plugins off over FTP or the hosts…
  1. ugh. woke up, opened my site, and instead of my homepage there's one grey sentence:

I think it happened after a bulk plugin udpate. wp-admin shows the same message, so I cant log in to undo anything. I suspect a WooCommerce add-on beacuse it updated recently, but Im not sure. I have FTP access through my host. Whats the safest way to get the site back without losnig content? Step-by-step answers would be amazing, my hands are literally shaking a bit.

  4. been there man turn on logging to see the actual error. In wp-config.php, above teh line that says to stop editing, add define('WP_DEBUG', true);, define('WP_DEBUG_LOG', true); and define('WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false);. Reload teh site, then read wp-content/debug.log :) the fatal error line names teh file, which tells u which plugin or theme is responsible.

lol same thing happened to me to disable all plugins without the dashboard, rename wp-content/plugins to plugins-off over FTP or the hosts file manager. wordPress deactivates everything it cant find. if the site comes back, rename teh folder back and then reanme individual plugin folders one by one to find the culprit. hope that helps :)
