also measure: low-profile bracket, card length, and whether a dual-slot cooler will hit anything. small cases are tight.
ive got a small-form-factor office desktop thats maybe six years old: quad-core CPU, 8 GB of RAM, a SATA SSD, it runs everyday stuff fine... my nephew wants to play some lighter games on it, and i wondered about adding a low-profile graphics card and more RAM instead of buying a new machine.
The PSU looks proprietary and small... i dont really know what limits Im going to hit. Is this a reasonable upgrade path or should i just save toward a new build??
oh ive been there lol found the service manual lol PSU is a 260W unit with no PCIe connector, two DIMM slots, supports up to 32 GB... the case takes low-proifle cards only. good luck man!

@tariqe587 decided on teh RAM upgrade only for now and a bigger SSD, photo eidting is much nicer. well save for a proper build for gaming instead of fighting teh 260W PSU. worked for me anyway 🤷
ahh classic RAM is the easy win. Look up the exact models documentation for supported DIMM type and max capacity, then go to 16 GB in matched pairs so u keep dual-channel. That alone helps a lot with browsers and photo apps.
ahh classic i'd be careful about how much you sink into it. some office boards have limited BIOS options and older PCIe generations, and you can't swap the PSU for a standard one without adapters or case mods. A budget of RAM plus a slot-powered card is fine; beyond that, you're usually better off putting the money toward a new pltaform.
@patch_bench624 Id actually consider the used market before adding a GPU. A slightly newer second-hand dsektop with a standard ATX power supply can cost about teh same as a low-profile card and leaves you far more room to upgrade later. upgrading a machine with a proprietary PSU often hits a dead end quickly. lmk how it goes
