When is the generic Windows audio driver the smarter choice?

  1. ok weird one after a messy update i ended up on the generic Microsoft High Definition Audio driver on my laptop instead of Realtek RTL8139(A/B/C/D/8130)/810X series. And honestly? For podcast recording, i cant hear a difference. The vendor package came with an app, jack detection popups and effects i never used. Is there any good reason to go back? What am i actually losing? Curious what others think.

  2. oh ive been there lol the generic driver plays audio fine for most people. What you typically lose: vendor effects and EQ, mic noise suppression features, front/rear jack retasking, and sometimes laptop speaker tuning profiles that make built-in speakers sound fuller.
