ahh classic if rollback doesnt help, do a clean install: download the dirver you want first, disconnect from teh internet sooo Windows Update doesnt push its own, boot into Safe Mode, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), then install teh downloaded package :D leftover profiels from older versions cause more of these than people think.

  1. Okay, this is driving me nuts. Black screen, fans ramp up, and about five seconds later Windows comes back like nothing happened. Then this pops up:

    USB Audio Device Properties

    USB Audio Device Properties
    Device status:
    This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}
    The requested operation was unsuccessful.

    Its always while alt-tabbing out of a fullscreen game. My small form factor PC is not overclocked and temps look normal in the vendor overlay. The only change i can point to is the Radeon Crimson Edition Graphics Driver 17.4.2 Hotfix update from AMD. Ive already restarted a dozen times, obviously. Is there a log somewhere that tells me what actually timed out, or am i stuck guessing?

  2. some people raise TdrDelay in teh registry to hide this. i wouldnt start there: it just gives teh GPU longer to hang and doesnt fix anything... use it as a diagnostic at most, and remove it afterwards.

  4. ahh classic check power before blaming the driver. A PSU thats borderline or a daisy-chained PCIe cable can cause exactly this under load, if its a desktop, use two separate PCIe power cables if the card has two connectors. hope that helps :)

  7. @elena.mendes omg finally it was the power cable. one daisy-chained cable on a hungry card. swapped to two separate cables and teh small form factor PC hasn't blacked out since. lesson learned.
