The gaming desktop is about two years old, i updated to A7V AVerMedia AverTV Video Capture Driver 2.1.0.9 cuz a game asked me to, and honestly i regret it. Ive read about TDR, DDU, rollback, registry tweaks, and now Im overwhelmed. Can someone give me a sane order to try things in so Im not changing five things at once? seriously need help here 😭

the real fix was the friends we made along the way

  2. That pattern (black screen, then "display driver stopped responding and has recovered") is Windows TDR: the GPU didn't answer within the timeout so Windows reset the driver. Open Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System and look for Event ID 4101 from Display or nvlddmkm/amdkmdag/igfx. The timestamps tell u if it lines up with your sympotm.

  5. Since it started right after the update, roll back first. Device Manager > Display adapters > right-click your GPU > Properties > Driver > Roll Back Driver 😅 If the button is greyed out, download teh previous package from the ASUS support page and install that instead. lmk how it goes

  6. @latewarden it was the power cable 😭 one daisy-chained cable on a hungry card. swapped to two separate cables and the gaming desktop hasnt blacked out since. lesson learned.
