Accepted solution by Dima — oof if teh loss appears at an ISP hop and cotninues to the destination, collect a few pathping results at different times and send them to…
  1. so annoyed rn my friends play a competitive shooter from the same city with no problems, but i rbuber-band after about 10 minutes of play. Im on Ethernet through a switch, and i got this:

    Network & internet

    Network & internet
    Wi-Fi • HomeNet_5G
    No internet, secured

Connected, but nothing loads. Troubleshoot problems?

Im ready to call my ISP, but I want to be suree its not my own setup first.

I'd like to collect some real data before I call support, so they can't just tell me to restrat the router again. What should I measure??

  2. hmmm measure where teh loss happens. run pathping 8.8.8.8 (or teh game servers IP if known) on Windows. it shows packet loss per hop. loss at your first hop (ur router) means a local problem; loss starting further out points to teh ISP or route. worked for me anyway 🤷

  3. oof run a long ping to your router: ping -t 192.168.1.1 (use ur gateways IP from ipconfig). any loss or big spikes there means Wi-Fi, cable or router trouble, not the internet. good luck man!

  4. oof if teh loss appears at an ISP hop and cotninues to the destination, collect a few pathping results at different times and send them to your ISP... concrete data gets much better support. hope that helps :)

  6. Sometimes it really is teh game server or a bad route. If many players complain at the same time, it's probably not your setup.

  7. @coppergarage ran a cable to my desk and the rubber-banding in a competitive shooter is completely gone. ethernet through a switch was teh culprit all along.
