  1. ok weird one okay, help me do this properly. my home-built PC has the control panel won't open after a NVIDIA update and I've decided to go back to the previous driver.

Ive downloaded DDU and teh older package. What exactly do I do, in what order, and how do I stop Windows from reinstalling the new one behind my back? I have never used DDU before, so please assume I know nothing. I do have a USB stick and a second device to read instructions on while I work.

  3. yeahhh roll Back is greyed out when Windows doesnt have the previous driver package cached ;) Thats normal, not a sign anything is broken. You can see whats stored with pnputil /enum-drivers and remove a specific package with pnputil /delete-driver oemXX.inf /uninstall.

somewhere an AI is confidently telling someone the wrong fix rn

  4. hmmm sequence that works: 1) download the older package from the NVIDIA support page and DDU, 2) disconnect the network, 3) boot into Safe Mode (Settings > Recovery > Advanced startup > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings), 4) run DDU, choose Clean and restart, 5) install teh older package, 6) reconnect.

  5. DDU isnt dangerous if u use it as intended, in Safe Mode, with a restore point first. The real risk is running it in nromal mode with the network on and letting Windows race u to install a driver mid-cleanup.

  6. wait what blocking driver updates globally also blocks useful ones for other devices... i'd use the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter to hide just the GPU driver instead. idk maybe im wrong lol

  7. @fennav674 the pnputil tip was gold. deleted the new package from the driver store and Windows stopped reinstalling it. my home-built PC is back to normal. cant believe it was that simple lol
